Managing binaries - how to store and then install BC app files
Date: 11-11-2022 | From: 11:15 to 12:00 | Room: Hall Y5
When somebody asks how we should manage our source code, the answer is obvious - "Use source control". But what should we do with the binaries? Some of our extensions could be products or libraries, different versions of these files could be installed in different customer databases. We should be able to quickly deliver new versions to customers or to create new development environments (containers) with different versions of our extensions. Other programming languages have their own package repositories but unfortunately we don't have anything like that. Can we reuse existing solutions or should we create something new? How we can manage dependencies? Join this session if you want to know how you can make your life easier, where you can store your files and how to deliver them to your databases.
Bio: I am a .net developer that moved to Microsoft Dynamics NAV world in 2004. I've been working with both c# and Dynamics NAV and later BC since that date. During that time, I was developing and designing both customer-specific solutions and products. Currently, I am working as development standards lead for The Nav People. I am also the author of the open-source AZ AL Dev Tools extension for Visual Studio Code, which helps AL developers with their everyday tasks.
